Job Description

The ATLAS Operations team holds ultimate responsibility for overseeing complex network components and maintaining the performance of the ATLAS global antenna network of ground stations. Primary responsibility is to monitor operations, respond to alarms or Customer notifications, and coordinate timely support to resolve network interruptions.  Operators support ATLAS technicians in the field and communicate summaries of field work to customers and ATLAS team.

 

ATLAS Operators are constantly working to improve operations efficiency, to include writing procedures, creating and updating diagrams, building monitoring dashboards, and other Operations Engineering work while not responding to network interruptions.  The role of ATLAS Operator will be highly technical, and you will gain a deep understanding of the technology that makes up the ATLAS network of global ground stations. You will be expected to learn quickly and independently, and continually drive system improvements as ATLAS rapidly scales our global network.

Duties:
  • Multitask in a dynamic startup environment, assisting in a myriad of areas

  • Investigate, document, and resolve anomalies on the global ATLAS antenna network

  • Address customer concerns regarding the network

  • Work with ATLAS engineering and program management to develop the network

  • Drive ATLAS road map for system improvements, providing requirements for software enhancements

  • Advance ATLAS operational capabilities through improved process and monitoring

  • Support 24/7 on-call rotations (additional compensation for these periods)

  • Assist engineering with emergency & planned site maintenance activities

  • Potential travel to remote sites (approximately 1x/quarter)

Required Qualifications: 
  • 4-year STEM degree OR 6 years of experience in a highly technical role

  • Ability to support periodic 24 hour on-call work

  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented and organized

  • Highly motivated self-starter

  • Intellectually curious fast learner

  • Must possess exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills

  • Available and willing to relocate to Traverse City, Michigan

  • Ability to troubleshoot system issues in a timely manner with minimal assistance

  • Requires analytical and problem solving skills to analyze data, do research, diagnose and solve problems

  • Microsoft Office or Google Suite tools experience

  • Aptitude to understand and adopt online collaboration tools and design/program management applications

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others, particularly in teams

  • Critical thinking, risk assessment and decision ability

  • Ability to understand business impact and prioritize issues and projects accordingly

Desired Qualifications: 
  • Work experience in a technical operations role

  • Experience administering or supporting computer systems/servers

  • Aerospace industry experience

  • Programming skills, especially Python, SQL, and Java

  • Customer support work experience

  • Familiarity with ticketing systems such as Jira 

  • Practical understanding of Radio Frequency (RF) communications technology, systems, practices and tools

  •  Experience in designing and implementing supporting SATCOM antenna infrastructure, i.e. foundation/structure support, electrical service installation, network access

  • Knowledge of SATCOM network operations with an understanding of best practices+
